February is Insurance Careers Month!

We asked our Underwriting Leader, Terri Moran, about her 40-year career and why she loves the insurance industry.

“Like many colleagues, I fell into insurance and never left. I think the career chose me! As an underwriter, I get to put my creative problem-solving skills to work daily—there is always a new challenge and no two days are ever the same—I am never bored.

Insurance is a community and I’m committed to supporting its legacy. I’ve served on the WSIA Internship Committee, telling students how rewarding, lucrative and stable an insurance career is, and am hosting an intern this year. I’m so proud to be a part of the future of the industry.”

February is also Black History Month!

Created in 1926 as a celebration to honor the achievements, contributions and legacies of Black Americans, the event received an overwhelming response: Black history clubs sprang up; teachers demanded materials to instruct students; and progressive whites, not just scholars and philanthropists, endorsed it. Originally held during the week of Abraham Lincoln’s and Frederick Douglass’s birthdays, it is now a monthlong celebration.

Mover’s Choice would like to give a shout out to Black Truckers United, an organization bringing together professional people of color in the trucking industry to network and socialize in a safe community.

FMCSA Proposes Changes to CSA

Long-awaited proposed changes to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Safety Measurement System (SMS) methodology include reorganizing and updating safety categories—currently known as the seven Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories, or BASICs.

The agency declined to adopt a more convoluted item response theory (IRT) model as an alternative to the existing SMS methodology. SMS uses data from roadside inspections, crash reports, and investigations to identify and prioritize carriers that pose the greatest safety risks.
